A syllabus in. A ready-to-teach kit out.

The PROPEL Challenge gives students real-world experience and real-world mentors. The Teaching Kit brings it into the courses they already take.

THE CLIENT

PROPEL Center, a national nonprofit that runs skills challenges for college students, in partnership with major employers.

THE PROBLEM

The PROPEL Challenge puts students in front of real-world problems, with mentors from the industry. PROPEL wants that experience inside the courses students already take, not only as something extra. But no two courses are the same.

A professor had to work out how the challenge fit their learning outcomes, how long it should run, and what students would hand in. Then they had to write the plan, the student brief, the rubric and the notes themselves, and check it all against the challenge rules.

As more professors join, PROPEL also needs one place to see which schools, professors and courses have signed on, and how their students are doing.

Before
  1. Read the challenge rules
  2. Map them to your course
  3. Write the plan
  4. Write the brief and rubric
  5. Send it to PROPEL to check

Every professor started from a blank page.

THE SOLUTION

We built a portal made for professors.

A professor uploads a syllabus, pastes a link, or describes the course. AI reads how the challenge fits the course's learning outcomes and writes three plans to choose from:

  • Light: about one week
  • Medium: about three weeks
  • Full: the full challenge

PROPEL staff review and approve the plan. Then the professor downloads a ready kit: the course integration plan, the student brief, the rubric and teaching notes, and a flyer to announce it to the class. The documents are editable, so the professor can make them their own.

The professor can ask for changes in plain words. The AI revises the plan, and pushes back when a request would break the challenge rules, like dates, eligibility or the rubric. It also flags courses whose students aren't eligible, before anyone puts in the work.

PROPEL staff get one view of every school, professor, course and plan, with a review queue for new plans. Once a course runs, professors can see how their students are doing in PROPEL U, with a filter for the students who need attention.

After
  1. Upload your syllabus
  2. Pick a plan
  3. Download your kit

WHAT CHANGED FOR THE CLIENT

  • Professors start from a plan written for their own course, not a blank page
  • Every plan follows the challenge rules before staff ever see it
  • Staff review and approve, instead of writing plans with each professor
  • One view of every school, professor, course and completion
  • Built on PROPEL's own website platform, so PROPEL owns it

THE SERVICE

When your team writes the same kind of document over and over for different people, AI can write the first draft from what they already have. We build the tool around your rules, so your staff only review and approve.
